Trim Excess Screen Material

Trim Excess Screen Material

How to Remove Excess Window Screen Material

After installing new window screens, it is common to have some excess material around the edges. This excess material can be trimmed using a sharp utility knife or scissors. Be careful not to cut the screen mesh itself. Once the excess material has been trimmed, the screen can be reinstalled in the window frame.

Steps to Trim Excess Screen Material

  1. Gather your materials. You will need a sharp utility knife or scissors, a measuring tape, and a pencil.
  2. Measure the window frame. This will help you determine how much excess material needs to be trimmed.
  3. Mark the excess material. Use a pencil to mark the excess material around the edges of the screen.
  4. Trim the excess material. Carefully cut the excess material with a sharp utility knife or scissors.
  5. Reinstall the screen. Once the excess material has been trimmed, the screen can be reinstalled in the window frame.

Tips for Trimming Excess Screen Material

  • Use a sharp utility knife or scissors. This will help you make clean cuts and avoid tearing the screen mesh.
  • Be careful not to cut the screen mesh itself. If you do, the screen will need to be repaired or replaced.
  • If you are not sure how much excess material to trim, it is better to trim less than more. You can always trim more material if needed.

Install Screen Pulls

Step 1: Gather Necessary Materials

  • Window screen pulls
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • lápiz

Step 2: Determine Optimal Location

Use the measuring tape to determine the center of the screen frame. Mark this point with the pencil.

Step 3: Remove Existing Knobs or Screws

Locate existing knobs or screws on the screen frame. Using the screwdriver, gently unscrew or remove them.

Step 4: Position the Screen Pull

Align the screen pull over the marked center point. Ensure it is level and facing the correct direction.

Step 5: Secure the Screen Pull

Insert the provided screws into the holes on the screen pull. Use the screwdriver to tighten them securely.

Step 6: Attach the Spline to the Screen

Cut a length of spline slightly longer than the screen frame. Insert the spline into the channel on the screen frame and gently press it into place. Start and end the spline at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7: Trim Excess Spline

Once the spline is fully inserted, use a utility knife or scissors to trim any excess material.

Tips:

  • Choose screen pulls compatible with the size and material of your screen.
  • Use a level to ensure the screen pull is installed evenly.
  • Tighten the screws securely, but avoid overtightening.
  • If your screen has multiple tension points, install screen pulls at each point for optimal functionality.
